When Orlando International’s new $2 billion plus South Terminal Expansion is complete, it will include a 5-level, 816,000 sq ft land-side passenger processing structure, a 822,000 sq ft air-side concourse, which consists of 19 gates, and an Automated People Mover (APM) Inter-model Terminal facility. To control unwanted cracking, FORTA Ferro macro synthetic fibers were used in all elevated slabs, the automated baggage basement floor, APM platforms, and roof decks. To stiffen the 5 1/4 inch composite metal decks, designers incorporated 5 lbs. of the macro fibers in 4,000 psi lightweight concrete to supplement 4×4-W4.0xW4.0 welded wire fabric.
