The C-43 West Basin, a multibillion dollar CERP project, is strategically designed to store approximately 170,000 acre-feet of local basin stormwater runoff, which will be collected over the rainy season and then released back to Lake Okeechobee when the river is in need of more fresh water. In this $500 million project, Cemex provided more than 40,000 cubic yards of concrete, 600,000 tons of underdrain sand and 130,000 tons of cement for the project, of which about 60,000 tons will be Type 1L Portland Limestone Cement (PLC). The structure was established with Cemex’s high-quality building materials, the reservoir will have a strong, sustainable foundation to store a significant portion of the overall water storage requirement for the Caloosahatchee River Basin.
