The 1st place overall winner is the recipient of the “Arthur Murphy Trophy” for excellence in safety. Competitors participate in the ready-mix truck driver, preventative maintenance team, forklift and frontend loader contests. Participants are judged on a pre-trip inspection, a written test and an obstacle course. For the preventive maintenance contest, teams are judged on a written test and the number of defects found on a ready-mix truck.

ARTHUR (ART) MURPHY (1948-2013) was a seasoned Safety Professional with thirty years of experience in the construction industry. He served as a member of the FC&PA Safety Committee for over 15 years and was an integral part of the Safety & Skills Competition since its inception in 1997. During his time in the industry, Art worked tirelessly to promote safety and educate on its importance. He demonstrated to us all this was more than just a job, it was his passion. His dedication helped to make the world a better, safety place: something everyone should strive for in life.

In addition to being a highly respected member of the industry, he excelled in many areas of life and took on several roles. He was a husband, family man, colleague, mentor and friend; he touched the lives of many.

Art’s unparalleled devotion to employee safety, cooperative spirit and leadership skills served as an example of what a true Safety Professional should be. It is for this reason that we are proud to name the FC&PA’s most prestigious award in his name.
